About Cardiff Castle
Cardiff Castle is a medieval castle and Victorian Gothic mansion in the city centre of Cardiff, Wales. The original motte and bailey castle was built in the late 11th century by Norman invaders on top of a 3rd-century Roman fort. In the 12th century it began to be rebuilt in stone, with a shell keep and substantial defensive walls. It was stormed in 1404 during the revolt of Owain Glyndŵr and was acquired by the 13th Earl of Warwick in 1423. Its position in the middle of the city, with a large walled site, makes it one of Cardiff's best-known historic landmarks. This page is an independent guide and is not affiliated with the venue.
