About Silverstone Circuit
Silverstone Circuit is a motor racing circuit near the Northamptonshire villages of Silverstone and Whittlebury. It first hosted the British Grand Prix in 1948, and the 1950 race there was the first in the newly created World Championship of Drivers. The Grand Prix rotated between Silverstone, Aintree and Brands Hatch from 1955 to 1986 before settling permanently at Silverstone in 1987. The circuit also hosts the British round of MotoGP. Its identity is bound to top-level four- and two-wheeled racing, with large crowds arriving for those race weekends. The Northamptonshire location, away from large towns, means that visitors generally travel in by road for race weekends.
