About Utilita Arena Newcastle
The Newcastle Arena, sponsored as the Utilita Arena, is an indoor arena in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is owned and operated by ASM Global, with naming rights held by Utilita Energy. Over its history it has hosted professional basketball and ice hockey tenants, though the Newcastle Vipers left for Whitley Bay Ice Rink in 2009 and the Newcastle Eagles moved to Northumbria University's Sport Central arena in 2010, leaving the venue without a resident team in either sport. That shift leaves the calendar centred on touring events and one-off sporting fixtures staged in the north-east's principal indoor arena.
